The other side of luck

I was at the laundromat, as I often am on a Saturday or Sunday, and as I was reaching into my wallet to grab some quarters for the dryer a penny fell onto the floor. Normally I would probably pick it up but for some reason I figured it was just a penny. I then sat down in a chair nearby to continue reading a magazine. About 10 minutes later a woman walks by and says “oh a penny! I better pick it up for good luck!” I debated saying something but what do you say? “Oh I dropped that penny earlier, no luck there” but every penny anyone finds is just a penny another person dropped.

So as I see it I got to be on the other side of luck or at the very least I brought a tiny flicker of hope to someone’s day by my carelessness of a penny.

Oscars going for Brokeback

So the Oscars are around the corner and after reading an article in my Premiere magazine I decided this year I would decide ahead of time what I thought would win and see how I do. Feel free to add your own opinion. I realize I haven’t seen most of the movies, shame on me, so most of this is just guessing and speculation.

Slut

I just watched a documentary about the four letter word Slut and how it effects everything around us. I’d never put a lot of thought into the word and I’m not sure anyone ever called me it when I was younger although I wouldn’t be surprised. I don’t even think I’ve ever been called the word “slut” to my face other than in a joking way with friends. I was sexually harrassed for having bigger breasts than other kids in middle school so quite possibly others thought I was a slut by the simple fact I was physically more mature than most kids that age.

The most interesting part of the documentary was the 7 words congress considers to be words that should be banned. Those 7 words are:

shit
piss
fuck
cunt
cocksucker
motherfucker
tits

These are the seven forbidden words but they don’t include slut or whore or many other “dirty” words.  I think maybe in some way society thinks words like slut or whore are more deserving to be used on some people than fuck or cocksucker.  The documentary even explained the difference between whore and slut as a whore gets paid for her sexual act and a slut does it for free.

If you’ve seen Sex and the City you’d know that women are trying to prove that it’s okay to express your sexuality and enjoy sex a much as a guy.  The only reason the word slut, in my opinion, is a derogatory word of any kind is because it can only be used negatively towards a woman, not a man.

Oatmeal, whole grain and smoothies

Those 3 things are a big part of my daily life now. I never knew I’d like oatmeal so much and hey it’s even good with just milk and berries. I’m perfectly happy switching to whole grain and it definitely fills me up more. I think an important key is eating things that don’t leave room for wanting more, it makes it so much easier to eat healthy portions. Smoothies are easy and so good for you, just make sure to add some Whey Protein to it for that extra energy.

I can feel a difference already, I feel more satisfied and I can tell when I eat the healthier foods I feel better. If I eat something loaded with starches or sugars I feel like crap so now I look forward to feeling good. I guess it’s all about just learning what you body wants and needs.
